Chakras and Stones

Rocks and minerals have always attracted me. From the rocks that filled my pockets as a toddler, to a rock tumbler in grade school, to studying geology and a career as a hydrogeologist, my fascination with minerals and crystals has been a relative constant in my life. 

Finding the connection between the science of the earth and the energy centers of our body or "Chakras" isn't really that hard to find. Everything is energy. You, me, water, rocks, air; all energy. Whether you believe in a higher power or if you look to physics to define the universe, the understanding that we are all connected through our energetic nature is unifying. 

Chakra Stones

Below you'll find a short description of the chakras and the stone that I've selected to represent each.  If you'd like a set of these stones, you can find them here.  I have also created a series of "stone meditations" using minerals that represent each of the chakras.  

Root Chakra

Our seat of physical vitality and the life energy necessary for survival and the our basic needs, our foundation, of trust and safety. 

Its colour is red and it is located at the base of the spine. It is the chakra closest to the earth and represents earthly grounding and physical survival. It is associated with the legs, feet, bones, large intestine and adrenal glands. It controls your fight or flight response. Blockage may manifest as paranoia, fear, procrastination and defensiveness.

Stone: Red Jasper for protection, tranquility, wholeness, nurturing

Sacral Chakra

Our center of sexuality and creativity.

Its colour is orange and it is located between the base of the spine and the navel. This chakra represents desire, pleasure, sexuality, procreation and creativity. It is associated with the lower abdomen, kidneys, bladder, circulatory system, reproductive organs and glands. Blockage may manifest as emotional problems, compulsive or obsessive behaviour and sexual guilt.

Stone: Carnelian Agate for creativity, manifestation, good luck

Solar Plexus Chakra

Our locus of wisdom and power.

Its colour is yellow and it is located a few inches above the navel in the solar plexus area. This chakra represents the emotional life, sensitivity, ambition and the ability to achieve,  It is associated with the digestive system, muscles, pancreas and adrenals. Blockage may manifest as anger, frustration, lack of direction or a sense of victimisation.

Stone: Yellow Quartz, Citrine for success, physical energy, comfort
